Quick-thinking strangers save driver from burning car
On OR Tambo Road, a driver’s worst nightmare became a story of gratitude as strangers leaped to their aid after their car erupted in flames.
Chaos erupted on OR Tambo Road this morning as a car burst into flames, but quick-thinking bystanders sprang into action, saving the driver from harm.
Wendy Ashington, the grateful driver, recounted her terrifying experience: “I’m deeply thankful to Christelle Mkhonza and the six men who saved me. If I hadn’t been pulled from the car, I could have been seriously injured. They were absolute heroes.”
Ashington was driving home from Clearwater Estate when her car started having trouble.
Mkhonza, who saw what was happening, alerted her to the fire, and six men quickly jumped into action, using fire extinguishers to contain the blaze.
“The entire ordeal unfolded in seconds,” Ashington recalled. “I’m shaken but grateful for their bravery and quick thinking.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
