Middelburg hitchhiker allegedly raped and robbed in neighbouring town
Crime strikes on eMalahleni roads.

A routine hitchhike turned into a nightmare for a complainant, who was allegedly subjected to a brutal kidnapping, robbery, and rape by two suspects.
According to the police reports, the complainant alleged that on Wednesday, October 9, she hitched a ride with a grey Cherry vehicle containing two occupants in Middelburg. The vehicle’s occupants told her that they were heading to eMalahleni.
The complainant further said that instead of the occupants dropping her off, they drove her to a dumping site. One suspect allegedly pointed her with a firearm and demanded her belongings.
The passenger allegedly grabbed her from behind, while the driver allegedly undressed and raped her, then the passenger followed by also raping her.
According to the complainant, the suspects instructed her to exit the vehicle and warned her to not look back.
Captain Eddie Hall, Witbank Police spokesperson said hitchhiking is not allowed at all, “The Mpumalanga Road Traffic Department does not allow hitchhiking and people will get fines if found hitchhiking.”
