Municipality rolls out second phase of smart meter installation

Emalahleni Local Municcipality embarks on smart meter installation project.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality has announced the commencement of the second phase of its smart meter rollout, aiming to enhance service delivery and efficiency.According to the second phase smart meter update issued by the Emalahleni Local Municipality on Monday, November 11;

• All households are expected to have smart meters installed by February;
• Residents who come forward for meter changes will receive a free replacement and amnesty until January;
• Installation teams will be identifiable;
• Smart meter replacements are completely free of charge;
• Older meter models will also be replaced during this phase;
• The remaining units on old meters will be transferred to new smart meters.

“We appreciate residents’ patience as we work to enhance service delivery. We have completed the standard transfer specification system prepaid meter verification process, and the smart meter programme will soon resume,” said the municipal communication unit.

The municipality requests co-operation from residents during this phase, ensuring a seamless transition to smart meters.
