MMC commits to weekly waste collection in Ward 1
MMC for Environmental and Waste Management, Nombuso Mokwana partnered with Thungela Mine to assist Ward 1 residents in maintaining a clean environment.
Emalahleni Local Municipality MMC for Environmental and Waste Management, Nombuso Mokwana, recently joined forces with Thungela Mine to assist communities in maintaining a clean environment.
The initiative and partnership quickly yielded positive results as large waste containers were donated to communities in Ward 1.
The MMC outlined the importance of maintaining clean communities, “let us work with our municipalities to avoid issues of illegal dumping sites.”
She also encouraged residents to report illegal dump sites and the lack of waste collection by the municipality.
“Waste will be collected every Thursday, and it is essential for the community to use them properly to keep our environment clean,” said Mokwana.
On Thursday, November 21, Nadine Joubert, a representative from Thungela highlighted the need to clean up the area alongside the municipality.
“The handover of the bins is to alleviate illegal dump sites in communities, to raise awareness, and to teach residents about waste separation,” Joubert explained.
Joubert confirmed that the collaboration was the first of many to come.
“We plan to continue working closely with the municipality to help out where we can and to build sustainable relationships with communities,” said Joubert.
Mogau Thubegale from Ward 21 expressed gratitude for the heartfelt donation and pledged to fight illegal dumping.
“We are happy with this donation, as it will help us keep our community clean. Thank you to our municipality and stakeholders for recognizing us,” Thubegale concluded.
