Council appoints debt collectors for overdue rates and services

The council is taking action on overdue rates and services.

The community is urged to settle their outstanding debt. The council has appointed Khumalo Masondo Attorneys and Moreka Investment as debt collectors for rates and services for debt older than 90 days.

This move aligns with the Municipal Finance Management Act 56 of 2003, which aims to secure sound and sustainable management of municipal financial affairs.

The community is urged to make payment arrangements for their outstanding debt and qualify indigent customers to apply for indigent subsidies to be exempted from legal collection actions on outstanding debt.

Failure to adhere to the notice will leave the council with no option, but to take further legal actions.

Furthermore, a settlement discount is in place for customers who want to settle their accounts, and incentive schemes will apply to customers who adhere to their payment arrangement.

In addition, consumers are encouraged to visit the office of the revenue services or contact Nkululeko Nkosi, assistant manager on 013 690 6406/6351/6492/6326/6583 during office hours from 08:00 to 16:30 from Monday to Thursday and Friday 08:00 to 13:30.
