Rehabilitation pastor had rehab at Botshabelo in Middelburg

The pastor who headed the rehabilitation centre where a man did last week, had a rehabilitation centre at Botshabelo in Middelburg last year.

All the patients in the rehabilitation centre that was in the spotlight last week because a man died there, come from Middelburg.

The patients were found in an abandoned old structure on a farm close to Siyanqoba on February 13.

Some of the patients had chains around their ankles.

The patients told WITBANK NEWS they heard how security guards assaulted Sfiso Mcigo (31) whose naked body was found in one of the rooms.

He was caught and brought back to the rehabilitation centre after he attempted to run away earlier in the week.

Pastor Patrick Simelane who heads City of Refuge Rehabilitation Centre previously operated the rehabilitation centre at the old Missionary House at Botshabelo.

The pastor wanted to open an orphanage and a boarding school on the premises.

It is alleged that he was chased off the grounds.

The pastor could not produce any registration papers for the rehabilitation centre in eMalahleni and the Department of Social Development said the rehabilitation centre was not registered.
