#Gatvol – Following recent events, it is clear that Emalahleni is in a state of disaster

The DA was refused permission to hold a picket in the garden area outside the municipal building this morning.

The DA was not allowed to picket before the council meeting commenced this morning.

They were bluntly refused permission to hold a picket in the garden area before going to the municipal chamber for the council meeting.

Clive Hatch, chairman of the DA constituency, said the reason for the refusal is that they have not received the speaker’s approval.

“Nowhere in the by-laws or on the application form does it specify that this is required. We attended the Section 4 committee meeting, and right from the beginning, it was clear that we would not get permission. Despite having explained numerous times that we were not handing over a memorandum or petition, they were adamant the speaker had to know and approve,” Hatch said.

That did not stop the DA from holding a press conference wherein they highlighted the community’s frustration with service delivery.

Clr Antoni Brits from the DA said, “They are sabotaging efforts from ordinary people fighting for basic needs and services. The DA will not stop fighting for the people.”

WITBANK NEWS invited the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni, Clr Vusi Nhlapo for an interview to touch base on the issues residents are facing.
To date, there has been no response from his office.
