Triggering troubles under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the past weekend has left eMalahleni stunned.

In one incident on March 21, a taxi driver was in an accident while waiting at the local taxi rank, when he was hit by another taxi driver.

The man alleged that the taxi driver was under the influence of alcohol.

After the two men got involved in a heated argument, the taxi driver allegedly pulled out a firearm.

The man was shot in the right thigh and assaulted afterward.

A similar incident occurred later the day in Klarinet Ext 6, where a man alleged that his neighbour discharged his firearm and fired shots in the air while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The neighbour was arrested soon after.

On March 23 another incident appeared at a tavern in the Klipfontein area.

An officer on duty said that he was patrolling the area when he heard a gunshot.

When he arrived on the scene, he found a lady that was bleeding from her leg.

The lady was shot allegedly by the driver of a silver Fortuner.

The driver fled the scene. Soon after the incident, a man was arrested after he allegedly confessed he fired a shot to the ground.

“The police warn all legal gun owners not to use their firearms whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs as the police will be forced to declare you unfit to possess a firearm,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of the Witbank Police.
