Undocumented nationals meet their match in Mpumalanga

Five more men suspected to be foreign nationals are behind bars as police are clamping down on illegal immigrants.

Five men appeared in Witbank Magistrate’s Court earlier this week because they failed to provide valid documentation.

They were arrested on May 3, during a stop-and-search operation as part of Operation Vala Umgodi at the Middelburg Toll Plaza.

The men, aged between 18 and 35, were traveling in a Toyota Quantum with Gauteng registration number plates and were charged with contravening the Immigration Act of South Africa due to a lack of valid documentation.

This operation comes just a week after a 47-year-old foreign national was arrested for similar offenses during Operation Vala Umgodi.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed his appreciation for the work done by the members involved in Operation Vala Umgodi.

The operation aims to combat illegal activities, including undocumented foreign nationals and illicit mining.

These arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by the SAPS to enforce immigration laws.
