The South African Police Service has released preliminary crime statistics for the month of June 2025, highlighting continued efforts to address key criminal activities in eMalahleni.

According to the report, law enforcement officers made 26 arrests in total across three major categories:

– Illegal possession of firearms accounted for two arrests, reflecting targeted operations aimed at curbing illegal weapon circulation.

– Drug-related offenses dominated the statistics, with 20 arrests made throughout the month. These included both possession and suspected trafficking cases, as part of ongoing anti-narcotics initiatives.

– Driving under the influence led to four arrests, showing that road safety enforcement remained a priority during winter months when impaired driving incidents often increase.

Police spokespersons emphasised that these figures represent focused interventions in key crime areas. While these numbers alone don’t provide a full picture of eMalahleni crime trends, they underscore continued pressure on syndicates, illicit trades, and behaviour that endangers public safety.

“I encourage communities to assist by reporting suspicious activity and supporting ongoing campaigns aimed at building safer neighbourhoods” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson of SAPS Witbank.
