Amantombazane Development League on the go in Kwa-Guqa
What began as a simple idea to help young girls avoid life-threatening habits like smoking, substance abuse, and early pregnancy has grown into a movement that’s reshaping futures in Kwa-Guqa Extensions.
The streets of eMalahleni are becoming safer for teenage girls, thanks to the Amantombazane Development League. A local resident, Siboniso Zwane, started the league to help girls avoid smoking, getting into trouble, or falling into teenage pregnancy.
Last weekend, the league held exciting U15 netball matches at Love Life Youth Centre. Where Mighty Rangers went head-to-head with Glad Empire and scored 16-4, Sbobo Ladies bagging 23-0 against KPM Academy, Lebo Stars 10-23 against Caddies, and The Queens 26-3 against Shooting Stars.
Parents came to watch and cheer for their children. “Parents should come and support their kids. Seeing them here excites me because it’s saving them from a lot of trouble,” said a proud mother as she smiled.
According to Siboniso, he started the league to give girls something good to do.
“We want our girls to believe in themselves. Soccer gives them hope, it builds good teamwork skills among them,” Siboniso said.
He further emphasised that he wanted to provide a safe and structured space where girls can develop confidence, discipline, and purpose.
Siboniso believes that it takes a village to raise a child; therefore, he is pleading with members of the public to lend him a helping hand in making an impact on young ones’ lives. Siboniso hopes to expand the league and reach more neighbourhoods in the future, with more sponsorships and greater support from local leaders.
