Charges against man accused of torching 2 women in Kwa-Guqa intensify

The two women from Kwa-Guqa succumbed to their severe burn wounds this past weekend.

The charges against the man accused of torching two women in Kwa-Guqa have intensified, following the recent passing of the victims, who fought a brave fight at the hospital.

According to the police, due to the passing of Nompumelelo Gumede and Antoinette Hill, the two attempted murder charges against the suspect will now change to two counts of murder.

Gumede succumbed to the severe burn wounds in the morning of August 3, while Hill died on August 1.

The 35-year-old is expected to appear before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on August 7 after his case was postponed during his first appearance on July 29.

The man is accused of allegedly dousing petrol on his girlfriend, Gumede, after a heated argument they had, together with his sister, Hill, who reportedly tried to help, and set them alight, leaving them locked in a room to burn.

The two women were rushed to the hospital soon after the incident, while the suspect was arrested and still remains in custody.
