Learner arrested for stabbing classmate with pen

The learner made her first court appearance in Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where she was remanded to next week.

The incident occurred on August 29.
According to the police, the two learners were involved in a heated argument that escalated into violence, where the accused allegedly used a pen to stab the other learner.

“The girl was taken into custody shortly after the incident and appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September1. She was released in the care of her parents and is expected to appear again next Monday, September 8,” said Sergeant David Ratau, Witbank SAPS spokesperson.

The school did not want to comment on the incident.

An inquiry was sent to the school as well as the Mpumalanga Department of Education, who have not responded yet.
