A knock led to armed robbery in KwaGuqa
Three robbers used a knock on the door to gain entry before fleeing with stolen goods.
A peaceful evening turned into a nightmare for a family in KwaGuqa Ext 16 when three armed men stormed into their home and fled with electronics, bank cards, and cellphones, all within minutes.
According to police, the incident happened on September 25 around 20:00, when the homeowner was watching television. A man, identifying himself as ‘Borries’, knocked at the door. The victim’s partner opened it, believing it was someone they knew. That’s when three armed men forced their way in and demanded cash.
When told there was no money, the intruders ransacked the house and eventually fled with a television, microwave, cellphones, and bank cards, all loaded into a vehicle parked on the roadside.
SAPS advises residents to take practical steps to make their homes more secure and less vulnerable to similar attacks: “Install CCTV systems and an intercom system” to help verify the identity of anyone at the gate or door before opening. Install strong doors and security gates with good quality locks to delay or prevent forced entry. Residents must treat every knock on the door with caution. Criminals often rely on familiarity or deception to catch their victims off guard.”
