Family left shattered after loved one hacked to death in Old Coronation
Following the death of the accused in the murder case, police confirmed that both cases have been closed.
The Mokoena family is still in disbelief and on edge after their loved one’s life was cut short in a brutal way at Old Coronation.
The woman, Ruth Mokoena (34), was hacked to death allegedly by her partner, a 37-year-old man.
Mokoena’s lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood on the evening of September 26 in their house in Old Coronation.
“I missed a call from her husband around 19:00; however, I returned his call around 21:00, and he told me that my sister is the one who had called me. I asked where she was, and he told me that she was sleeping. He then later told me that he had killed my sister. I couldn’t believe it,” said her brother, Emmanuel Mokoena.
“My sister was killed with a pick. She didn’t have one visible wound, but multiple visible wounds made from a pick,” he added.
According to the Witbank Police spokesperson, Captain Eddie Hall, the police received a tip-off from a neighbour, and when they arrived on the scene, they found the lifeless body of the woman on the floor on September 26.
She was hacked to death. A murder case was opened shortly.
Things took a sudden turn after the deceased’s husband, accused of murdering her, was later run over by a train and died on the scene.
The Witbank SAPS also launched an inquest shortly.
According to the police, the couple was undergoing the process of separation at the time of the incidents, and both cases are now closed.
