Man robbed of phone in the streets of Coronation at night

The police advise the public to always be alert and avoid being busy on the phone during evening walks.

A man’s walk to his home in Coronation took a dramatic turn as he was suddenly met by a gang of men who robbed him of his phone.
According to the police, a man said that he was walking home from work in the evening of October 3 when three men suddenly stopped him and instructed him to keep quiet.

He said that one of them started searching him, while the other two allegedly pointed a firearm and a knife at him.

They robbed him of his phone and fled the scene, enabling him to also run to his home.
Spokesperson for the Witbank SAPS, Captain Eddie Hall, discourages walking in the streets alone at night, but he says if people find themselves in such situations, they must always be alert and avoid listening to music or being busy on their phones.

“Don’t take shortcuts, walk where everyone walks. If you see any suspicious people, turn back and run to somewhere safe. Importantly, do not talk to strangers,” he said.
