Young man stabbed after helping woman with TV in Duvha Park

The suspect in the case was arrested and is expected to appear before Witbank Magistrate’s Court soon.

A young man who had been hired to mount a television stand in Duvha Park ended up in hospital with stab wounds.

According to the victim’s sister, on December 3, the 20-year-old had been called by a lady to her house in Duvha Park, where she needed assistance with plugging her TV into the wall.

“After finishing with the process, my brother asked to stay a bit as he wanted to watch some soccer games,” the sister said.

It was after a while, around 22:00, when the lady’s boyfriend showed up, allegedly drunk, finding his girlfriend with some of her friends, along with the victim, in the house. In silence, the man went outside and returned to allegedly assault his girlfriend.

“As my brother and the others tried to intervene, he got stabbed with a beer bottle in the stomach and was rushed to the hospital,” the sister said, adding that as her brother was taken to the hospital, the man went to the police to open a case, claiming the victim had assaulted him.

“My brother was fetched by the police from the hospital and spent hours at the station, but that was all until the witnesses explained the full story of what really transpired,” she said.

The man has since been arrested and will appear before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on December 18.
