Coal companies bond over soccer in eMalahleni

The tournament was aimed at strengthening bonds between the companies.

Umzamo Analytical Services (UAS) in eMalahleni recently hosted an exciting soccer tournament that brought together teams from different companies in the coal industry.

Held on December 16 at Hoërskool Reynopark, the annual tournament provided not just a platform for healthy competition, but also an opportunity to strengthen bonds between the companies in commemoration of Reconciliation Day.

“We just wanted to build relationships and bonds with teams from other companies, but at the same time, we also wanted to bring serious competition,” a leader from UAS said.

Six teams participated, including Eskom Kusile, Ronewa, Sibonisiwe, and three UAS branches, Hendrina, Sasol, and Witbank. UAS Sasol and UAS Hendrina competed in the final match, with Hendrina dominating with a 3-0 victory.

After the final whistle, everyone chilled and indulged in some good food, fine drinks, and cozy conversations.

“We might’ve been competitors, but we were very cool competitors because as soon as the fun began after the games, it became hard to tell the difference between the teams. We became one,” the leader said.

The day was a resounding success, with safety coordinator Elizabeth Mudau concluding that they had a great time.

“Everything went exceptionally well, we had lots of fun bonding with other teams from different companies,” she said.
