Robberies still a culture in Vosman precinct – police urge public to remain vigilant

The public is urged to work with the police by reporting all suspicious activities and taking steps to protect themselves and their belongings.

Vosman Police Station precinct is still battling robberies where firearms are utilised to overpower victims.

In the last week of the year, more than two house robberies were reported at the Vosman Police Station, as well as a business robbery where the owner was kidnapped.

Business robbery, kidnapping, GBH, and motor theft

In the first incident, a man told the police that on December 29, he was sitting in the office with his friends in Clewer when five armed men allegedly pointed firearms at them and demanded that they lie on the floor.

He told the police that they searched them and robbed them of their phones, cash, a laptop, and a camera. He further explained to the police that they vandalised the office, and took them to the Jeep and Toyota Fortuner and drove with them to a house in KwaMhlanga, where they tied them with cable ties.

The man further alleged that the kidnappers tortured them by beating them. They then allegedly demanded money and transferred R150 000 from his account. The gang fled the scene in his car afterwards, and they are still at large.

Second house robbery incident
In the second house robbery incident, the man told the police that on December 31, he was sitting with his family when he noticed two armed men by his door. He further explained to the police that they instructed him not to move; however, he tried talking with them, which made one of them shoot him in his stomach. They then made off with cellphones, and they are still at large.

Captain Vusi Mnisi, the Vosman SAPS spokesperson, urged residents to always be on the lookout and also verify that their doors are locked to avoid making it easier for criminals to gain access in their premises.

He further confirmed that all cases are still under investigation, and anyone with information that can help them solve these cases can contact Vosman SAPS on 079 891 5314 or 013 244 7196.

While police confirm that investigations are actively underway, the majority of cases currently have no arrests made. In several instances, the perpetrators are reportedly known within the community.
