Optimum Colliery’s comeback – 500 new jobs to be created

It is estimated that roughly 2 000 people will be working at the mine by the end of the year.

Liberty Coal has shared some exciting updates about Optimum Colliery’s future.

In the headlines is the arrival of the new principal mining contractor, Liberty Mine Services (LMS).

LMS has officially brought on board over 540 employees from the previous contractor and plans to expand into underground mining and dragline operations this year, creating an estimated 500 new jobs.

The Marion 8200 dragline had a facelift costing the company R400 million.

The Marion should be back in action by March.

Liberty Coal’s CEO, Hlayiseka Chauke, commented on the appointment and described the partnership as a “new and exciting chapter.”
