Mia sweeps 7 distinctions

Having passed with flying colours, Mia plans to chase a calling, not a degree.

Former Cambridge Academy learner, Mia Ligthelm, accomplished what many matriculants only dream of – a clean sweep of seven distinctions in her matric results.

The 18-year-old passed all her subjects that included accounting, Afrikaans, English, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, and physical sciences, with flying colours. However, she said her results were not a matter of luck, but a product of hard work and discipline.

“There is no shortcut to doing well. I worked hard and did multiple past papers,” she said, adding that she never stopped practicing.

The bright mind also emphasised the importance of leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle, as she believes that it also contributed to her outstanding performance.

Mia isn’t chasing a degree just yet. Instead, she is currently doing iXchange at her church and dedicating her life to seeking and serving God.

“I am exchanging my plans for God’s plans because I know His ways are higher than my ways,” she said.

Quoting Matthew 6:33, which speaks about seeking the Kingdom of God, Mia said she is determined to place her focus solely on God and His purpose for her life.

“I am seeking the ways of God and His plans for my life because His plans are far greater than what I can do for myself,” she added.

Apart from serving, Mia said she is also going to be attending Bible school lessons at church, which will improve her discipline.

“We are standing in faith on what God will reveal – Jeremiah 29:11,” said proud mom, Amanda Ligthelm.
