Prepare to get heaters on and soup simmering on the stove.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), bitterly cold weather is expected in eMalahleni over the coming days.

A sharp cold front, supported by an upper trough, is expected to bring a huge drop in temperatures across Mpumalanga, starting today, August 10, and continuing into Tuesday.

Extreme cold conditions are expected with daytime maximums dropping to well below 10°C.

“At the moment, there are no alerts issued for Mpumalanga. SAWS will continue to monitor the weather and update the public accordingly,” she added.

“Snow is forecast for the escarpment areas of Mpumalanga, but there is a very low chance of snow in the Highveld,” said Tokelo Chiloane, senior weather forecaster at SAWS.

Residents are urged to dress warmly, keep their pets indoors and take necessary precautions against the cold over the next 48 hours.
