4 eMalahleni schools benefit as Black Power Africa delivers on promise

The donation follows Black Power Africa’s recent partnership with Thungela on the Schoongezicht remaining project.

Months after pledging support to matric learners during a schools debate competition, Black Power Africa has honoured its commitment by handing over grocery parcels worth R5 000 each to four eMalahleni secondary schools to assist with matric examination camps.

The handover ceremony took place at Vosman SAPS on October 13, bringing together representatives from education, law enforcement, community structures and the private sector in a show of support for the Class of 2026.

The donation benefited learners from Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School, Zacheus Malaza Secondary School, Elukhanyisweni High School and Phillip Ndimande Secondary School, all of whom participated in the Community Police Forum Sector 1 eMalahleni Patrol Forum’s Secondary School Debate Competition earlier this year.

Debate tackles key youth issues

The debate competition, held at Clewer Community Hall in collaboration with Vosman SAPS on May 9, allowed learners to tackle important social issues affecting schools, including bullying, learner discipline and the role of school uniforms in promoting identity and pride. The initiative was designed to empower young people to become advocates for positive change within their schools and communities.

At the conclusion of the competition, Black Power Africa general manager Jabulani Nkonyana pledged R5 000 worth of groceries for each participating school’s matric study camp. The company has now fulfilled that promise, providing much-needed support to learners preparing for their final examinations.

During the handover ceremony, Vosman SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vusi Mnisi thanked all the teams for their efforts, including the sponsors. He said it was ‘a job well done’, and they hoped to see the learners succeed in life too.

Mining partnership boosts local community

The donation follows Black Power Africa’s recent partnership with Thungela on the Schoongezicht re-mining project. The partnership has created local employment opportunities, while the companies have also been involved in community initiatives, including school debates, sports development and education projects.

For the beneficiary schools, the groceries are expected to ease the burden of hosting matric study camps and help ensure that learners have the necessary support as they prepare for one of the most important periods of their academic journey.
