Family in Extension 17 bearing the stench of sewage for years
Sewage is an endless source of health hazards in Mokoena’s home.
For the past three years, a family has had to bear the stench of sewage running across their yard; they are still pleading for assistance.
The Vosman family claims they have been dealing with drain leakage inside their yard since 2019, and the sewage spill that keeps overflowing seems to have no end and no solution.
The drainage spill is not a minor issue, but it is hazardous to people’s health, and the family stated that they have had enough of the stench and that their health had been compromised.
Thabang Mokoena said, “The drain stinks to the point where we don’t even open windows and doors.”
According to Thabang they have reported this issue several times, but have yet to receive assistance.
The main problem is that wastewater leaks not only from the drain but also from the drain where the tap is that they use to get water, which immerses the yard.
“We would like the drain to be repaired because we use the tap to get water,” Thabang concluded.
Mr Lebo Mofokeng, spokesperson for the Emalahleni Local Municipality, did not respond to the WITBANK NEWS before it went to print.
