Soaring hijackings in eMalahleni raise concerns

Violent carjackings continue to plague the city, with no sign of decrease. Residents are reminded to remain cautious amid the ongoing threat.

Carjackings in the city show no signs of slowing down, and residents are urged to remain vigilant as these violent crimes continue to pose a serious threat.
On October 17, a man’s routine visit to his friend’s home in Klarinet Ext 8 took a frightening turn.
According to the police, at approximately 19:57, he left his house driving a white VW Polo.

Upon arriving around 20:05, he parked inside the driveway.
As he stepped out to close the gate, he was confronted by four unknown men.

One of them allegedly brandished a firearm and demanded that he get back into the car. Even after being slapped, the man refused to comply.

The suspects then forced their way into the vehicle and drove off with the car.

Witbank Police Station spokesperson, David Ratau, said, “Carjacking in the area remains a serious concern and does not appear to be decreasing. These are very dangerous crimes where people often get hurt. We urge everyone to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Your safety is our priority.”

Police are investigating the case and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
