Measle cases reported in eMalahleni – here is where to get children vaccinated
Immunisation catch-up campaign kicks off in eMalahleni after positive measle cases were reported.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) coordinator, Sister Elsie Matlou, has urged parents and carers in the Emalahleni sub-district to ensure their children receive measles vaccinations during the immunisation catch-up campaign, which begins today.
Matlou confirmed that Emalahleni has recorded nine measles cases, including three positive cases in Phola and six suspected cases at Itereleng Primary School in the Thushanang area. The suspected cases were identified after several learners presented body rashes.
Of the six, three tested negative, while the other three were not tested because they were absent when the CDC visited the school.
This update follows a report from Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Manzini, who announced that Nkangala District has recorded 76 confirmed measles cases, while Gert Sibande District has identified 14 new cases.
Since the beginning of 2025, Mpumalanga Province has confirmed 96 laboratory measles cases, mostly affecting children between the ages of one and fourteen years.
