Kwa-Guqa mom appeals for help after tragic house fire

“We tried contacting the fire department, and they responded, but when they got here, it was too late to save the house,” said Leticia Masemola.

A family in Kwa-Guqa Extension 4 has been left stranded after a fire destroyed their home, burning all their belongings to ashes.

The incident occurred on Saturday, November 15, and the family is seeking assistance as they struggle to recover from the sudden loss.

According to the house owner, Khanyisile Yotho, the tragedy unfolded shortly after she had returned home from an event.

“I noticed smoke coming from the car as I parked it. Concerned, I contacted my mechanic, who was already on his way to inspect the vehicle. However, before help could arrive, the fire spread rapidly, engulfing the house and leaving us with nothing,” said Yotho in disbelief.

“The fire was spreading so fast in a way that we couldn’t save anything,” Leticia Masemola, a resident in Ext 4 who tried to extinguish the flames, said.

The blaze consumed everything inside the home, including clothing, furniture, and essential household items.

The family now faces the sad reality of rebuilding their lives from scratch.

“We tried contacting the fire department, and they responded, but when they got here, it was too late to save the house,” Masemola added.

The car was also burnt inside the garage.

“This is the second time my house has been burnt ,” Yotho said.

The family is pleading with anyone who would like to donate clothing, food, and other essentials to help them get back on their feet to contact them at 079 291 4359.

The local municipality has yet to comment on the incident.
