Local heroes bring smiles to Ackerville with food and clothing outreach

Spreading smiles in Ackerville.

The Kakarambha Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting people affected by drug addiction, teamed up with Mpiloenhle Mashiyane and several local organisations to host a food and clothing outreach programme in Ackerville.

The initiative, supported by Youth Empowerment Global Vision, Cover My Book Foundation, FJ Events, Value Meat, and other local partners, brought together volunteers and community members for a day of giving and connection. On December 1, residents received freshly cooked meals and essential clothing items throughout the day.

“This outreach is about more than just food and clothes,” said the founder of the foundation, Thando Masango. “It’s about showing our community that they are valued and loved. Seeing the smiles on their faces reminds us why this work is so important.”

Community members expressed their appreciation for the initiative.

One resident said, “It’s not every day you see people coming together just to care. Today was special; we felt seen, cared for, and supported.”

The foundation and its partners plan to continue similar outreach programmes in the future. “We are grateful to everyone who donated and contributed,” Mpiloenhle said. “Together, we can put more smiles on more faces.”
