No restoration time in sight as burnt mini-subs leave Del Judor and Reyno Ridge in the dark

Restoration time remains unknown, and the ward councillor has raised concerns over maintenance and supply.

Residents of Del Judor Extensions 1 and 2, as well as Reyno Ridge, continue to face uncertainty following the burning of two mini-substations that supply power to the areas.

One unit was destroyed in Steenkamp Street, Del Judor Ext 1, and the other in Hofstra Street, Del Judor Ext 2.

“We informed the council yesterday, minutes after the burning of the mini-subs. The power outages began on Sunday at 12:13, and while some areas were temporarily restored, they went offline again after the mini-subs burnt,” said Clr Lizelle Steyn.

According to the municipality, a new mini substation needs to be installed for the power outages affecting Reyno Ridge extensions and Del Judor extensions 1 and 2. Unfortunately, an estimated restoration time is not currently available.

She said, “The updates that have been provided have been relatively vague, bringing into question why no estimated time of completion can be given. This also begs the question of whether any mini-subs are available for the replacement. Regarding sourcing or availability through the supply chain, we have not received any communication.”

“The lack of maintenance on infrastructure is the root of all these issues, and now the community is paying the price for the absence of basic services,” she added.
