Mr Emalahleni set his sights on leadership impact and national influence
Mr Emalahleni 2025, Sylvester Thekga, sets his sights on leadership, entrepreneurship, and uplifting youth in his community.
After capturing the hearts of many and earning his title within the Mr Emalahleni pageant, Sylvester Thekga (25), also known as ‘Sly Man,’ is stepping boldly into a future shaped by purpose, creativity, and a deep commitment to uplifting his community.
The DJ, model, entrepreneur, and youth advocate said his next chapter is ‘bigger than any stage’ he has ever stood on, and the plans he carries could transform both himself and the city that raised him.
“This isn’t just a temporary moment for me,” he said. “It’s the foundation of something greater. I feel like God is opening doors that match the purpose He placed in me.”
Sylvester’s identity as a DJ remains a core part of his future plans. Already a beloved figure in the City of Coal nightlife and creative spaces, he aims to take his sound to bigger cities and eventually national stages.
“Music is the language I speak best,” he explained. “I want to take the soulful, energetic style I’m known for and share it with wider audiences across South Africa.”
Modelling also continues to shine as a long-term passion. He plans to elevate his portfolio with more brand partnerships, fashion campaigns, and runway opportunities.
“The camera feels like home now,” he said. “I see myself growing into a face that represents culture, confidence, and creativity.”
What sets him apart from many young entertainers is his commitment to his birthplace.
His future includes large-scale community involvement, from small business development to mental health advocacy.
He envisions visiting schools across the region, speaking to learners about their potential, and pushing the message that opportunities are not just found elsewhere; they can be built right here.
“The youth need someone who understands their struggles and their dreams,” he said. “I want to be present, accessible, and consistent. That’s how real change starts.”
With plans to expand his entrepreneurial footprint, he hopes to launch several small businesses designed to challenge unemployment while creating a culture of ownership.
“We need more people dreaming of being employers, not just job seekers,” he added. “A business can change a family. A community of businesses can change a city.”
His long-term vision includes establishing community programmes that focus on empowerment through the arts, confidence-building workshops, and youth development events. Mental health, a subject he is passionate about, will be a central part of his movement.
He aims to partner with the municipality, local leaders, and regional organisations to secure funding, training, and opportunities for young people.
“The young voices of eMalahleni must be heard,” he said. “My role is to be a megaphone for them until they become their own.”
Part of his future mission includes reshaping how boys view pageantry. He hopes to inspire a new generation of confident, purpose-driven young men ready to break stereotypes.
“Confidence has no gender,” he said. “If you feel called to do this, step into it boldly. The world needs leaders who aren’t scared to be different.”
From the stage to the streets, from youth development to entrepreneurship, his next chapter is defined by expansion.
He dreams of going national, collaborating with top creatives, establishing a recognised community foundation, and becoming one of eMalahleni’s most influential young leaders.
But at the center of it all remains his faith and his belief in people.
“My future looks bright because it’s not just about me,” he said. “It’s about every young person who thinks their dream is too big. I want them to look at my journey and say, ‘If he made it, so can I.”
