Emalahleni residents will have to wait for Smart ID Card bank service

Skip the online booking – banks now offer quick and secure Smart ID card applications, though Emalahleni residents will need to wait for local availability.

The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has partnered with selected banks to make applying for Smart ID cards faster and more convenient. Customers in participating areas can apply directly at bank branches without using eHomeAffairs.

However, Emalahleni residents, please note that the service is not yet available locally.

Those living in Emalahleni will need to wait until nearby branches are included in the programme.

This service, where available, allows the following:

  • Green ID book holders converting to a Smart ID card
  • Re-issues for existing Smart ID card holders
  • Permanent residents and naturalised citizens from visa-exempt countries (initial phase).
