Witbank SAPS searches for suspects after CBD hijacking
Police advise people who attend taverns to avoid asking for help from strangers to avoid falling victim to crimes.
Witbank SAPS is investigating a case of carjacking after a man was allegedly robbed of his vehicle at knifepoint in the CBD.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 21:30 on Friday, August 21, when the victim approached a man smoking outside a tavern in the CBD to find out where he could get a dash (a type of drink).
The smoker and three of his friends agreed to direct the driver and boarded his white Nissan Sentra.
While driving towards a local mall, it is alleged that one man choked the driver from behind, and they forced him to stop the vehicle and move to the back seat.

Suspects demand banking PIN
They drove around town for a while before another man allegedly pulled out a knife and placed it at the driver’s neck, robbing him of his cellphone and bank cards, and demanding his banking PIN.
The suspects then reportedly stopped at a tavern in Ackerville, where they used the victim’s card to buy alcohol before assaulting him and abandoning him at a nearby stop sign.
The victim managed to walk to a petrol station for help.
Warrant Officer David Ratau confirmed that investigations into the case are under way.
He urged anyone with information regarding the suspects or the stolen Nissan Sentra to contact Witbank SAPS on 079 891 5570 or 013 655 5052.
