Witbank SAPS reports zero arrests during eMalahleni voting

Police remain stationed at three local polling venues after party disputes prompted ballot recounts.

Voting in the local government elections proceeded smoothly in eMalahleni yesterday (November 4), with police reporting no incidents.

Witbank SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer David Ratau said officers reported for duty from yesterday morning to maintain order and ensure the safety of voters, and remained on duty throughout the night.

“In the morning it was not busy, then during the day people started pouring in,” Ratau said. “Everything went well and no one was arrested during the voting.”

At the time of publication, Ratau noted that police were still deployed at three voting stations where votes are being recounted due to disputes from political parties.
