Legend Logistics and SG Coal recently handed over 80-litre water barrows and bags of maize meal to residents from the Waya Waya section in Phola.

According to company stakeholders, the August 19 handover came after they noticed water shortages experienced by residents in the area, prompting them to lend a hand.

Lucas Mtsweni, speaking on behalf of the companies, said the initiative benefited 75 households and was a gesture of appreciation.

“We extend our sincere gratitude for the positive working relationship we share with the community,” Mtsweni said. “The water barrows project is a small token of appreciation for your support and interest in us. Thank you for believing in us.”

Various community members, stakeholders, and leaders, including eMalahleni Local Municipality Mayor Vusi Nhlapho, were present at the handover.

Nhlapho assured residents that the initiative was not a permanent solution, but an alternative water supply while negotiations for a permanent solution continue.

“What you see here today doesn’t mean that we’ve given up on you. We are still in negotiation to continue supplying you with water,” Nhlapho said.

Thanking the sponsors, he said, “On behalf of the people of eMalahleni, we are saying salute and may God bless you for the good gesture. You are actually doing this to show patriotism that you are part and parcel of this municipality, and we want to thank and appreciate you.”
