Businesswomen celebrate corporate chief
RBCT CEO shares leadership advice with Richareds Bay businesswomen.
RICHARDS Bay Coal Terminal’s (RBCT) first female CEO Nosipho Siwisa-Damasane continues to inspire women with her charismatic approach to business and motivational words of wisdom.
At a luncheon hosted by the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) to honour the CEO in Richards Bay on Thursday, Siwisa-Damasane shared some leadership advice.
‘Take the opportunities that come your way. Be your best and don’t bang the door behind you – let other women in,’ she said.
‘Have an open-door policy and allow people in your space. Let them tap into your knowledge and expertise and don’t rank them.’
Among her many accolades, Siwisa-Damasane was recently announced the corporate category winner at the national Businesswoman of the Year Awards.
Thanking the association, she said the BWA has significantly increased her networking capabilities.
‘BWA has given me the opportunity to meet like-minded women who share the same challenges.
‘It has also been a platform for me to share my experiences with other women.’
Her best career decision was to decline a job offer from the Transkei Development Corporation to complete her articles with Ernst & Young in East London.
‘This decision led my career to where it is today – joining the port industry and the lessons that came with it, as well as the mechanics of the economy and the infrastructure development projects that I’ve been involved in.’
Siwisa-Damasane was first headhunted by the coal terminal in 2012 after swiftly rising through the ranks at Transnet.
