Melis Hair and Beauty came first in the Best Hair Salon category in the 2024/25 Best of Zululand Awards. Owner Melissa Wepener shares her salon’s story and how it feels to be a Best of Zululand winner with such a young company:

Melis Hair and Beauty salon opened its doors in 2022 when we decided to take a leap of faith and put our talent to the test. With hard work, patience and unwavering support, I am proud to say that the past three years have been the best years of my life.

We have been truly blessed with the opportunity to expand and, in March 2024, we proudly opened our second Melis Hair and Beauty Salon in Empangeni.

Being a hairstylist is about so much more than just cutting hair. It’s about growing with our clients and sharing in their milestones – from matric farewells to wedding days.

That’s what makes this job so incredibly rewarding.

Every client who walks out of our salon doesn’t just carry our signature on their crown – they take a little piece of our hearts with them.

Winning Best Hair Salon in the Best of Zululand Awards is proof that hard work pays off. It reassures us that everything we pour into our craft is received with even more love and appreciation.

This award also shows that our clients truly connect with the passion we put into every hairstyle.
