Bay burglary alert

Police have warned residents in Richards Bay to be alert after several business and residential burglaries were reported

A SPIKE in burglaries at residential and business premises in Richards Bay is becoming a concern for police.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson, Captain Debbie Ferreira, says several burglaries have been reported recently where criminals used forced entry to gain access to premises.

In Mzingazi, suspects broke down a homestead door at Mabuyakhulu Cottages around 2am last Wednesday, threatened the women with sticks and stole cell phones and a laptop.

In Richards Bay burglaries were reported in Tassel Berry Road in Arboretum, Corral Shower in Veldenvlei and Dollar Drive in the central business district.

Ferreira added that incidents of theft out of motor vehicles was still a major problem and urged motorists not to leave valuables in their vehicles.

‘Theft out of motor vehicles is a crime that can be averted and we ask the public to be wary of leaving items in the boot or inside the vehicles,’ she said.
