Walk for the Sanca cause

The annual Sanca Walk Away from Drugs - now bigger and better - takes place on Saturday

ENTRANTS to this year’s Sanca/Bay Watch ‘Walk Away from Drugs’ event, which takes place on Saturday, can choose from a number of planned activities.

For the majority, a gentle stroll from the Zululand Yacht Club (ZYC) around Naval Island and back will again provide a colourful, festive and noisy spectacle for young and old.

Whether carrying messages on banners and posters, pushing prams or walking the dog, the procession will enjoy both the wonderful outdoors as well as the fun activities at the water tables.

Others will take to the water after the official 9am start, either on stand-up paddle boards or in canoes, while another option awaits mountain bikers who choose to pedal their way along a section of the Fish Eagle route – or a tiny route on a tricycle.

Registration starts from 7am and there are plenty of activities and stalls to keep the crowd busy before the warm-up and start.

Entry fee is just R10 for adults and R5 for children.

Security and emergency services will be provided courtesy of CRG and Netcare 911.

Even before the big day there is action: this time on the catwalk as entrants vie to be crowned the first Ambassador at Miss Sanca Zululand 2013 presented by Trelique Modelling and Promotions Agency.

Registration is between 5pm and 6pm with the pageant starting at 6.30pm on Friday, again at the ZYC.

Dress code is sportswear and models will need to make an A3 poster with a slogan campaigning against drug abuse, with an award for best slogan in the categories: Age 4-8; 9-12; 13-15 and 16-25.

Entry fee is R100 and all proceeds will be given to Sanca Zululand.

Lovely hamper prizes are up for grabs and winners will start and lead the main walk on Saturday.
