Sewer cleared at Ging court

Clean up at Gingindlovu Magistrate's Court

FOLLOWING reports of a sewer blockage at the Gingindlovu Magistrate’s Court in the Zululand Observer dated Monday 27 September, the problem has been cleared.

Court officials report that the spill was cleared on the Tuesday following the article.

An official who did not want to be identified said that they had been trying to sort out the sewer blockage over a period of four weeks before turning to the Zululand Observer for help.

Court stink

FOR almost a month raw sewage has been overflowing out of blocked drains at the Gingindlovu Magistrate’s Court.

The problem has been reported to the authorities, but nothing has been done.

Staff continue to work under these appalling conditions with sewage even running strongly into the court’s buildings.

Besides the smell, staff and persons attending the court have to avoid the waste as it flows freely around the buildings. According to court officials, who chose to remain anonymous, they had exhausted all avenues to rectify the problem.

‘The Department of Public Works is supposed to assist with such repair work and has been notified of the problem. But we have received no help to date. We honestly don’t know what else to do. Court has to proceed and we have no other option but to continue under these terrible conditions.’
