Building business muscle

Mazibuko, a man at the heart of the community

FROM humble beginnings to reputable physiotherapist and business professional, Senzelwe Mazibuko has a simple message to share.

‘What you confess with your tongue will come true, when backed up with hard work, perseverance, determination and a never-give-up attitude to achieve your dreams,’

It is stamina and mental strength that helped him travel a tough but exciting journey to become the inspirational community role model he is today.

Born in the dusty heart of Nkonjeni reserve in Mahlabathini with hopes of becoming an optometrist or educator, his plans changed when his mother sadly suffered a stroke.

‘When I was eight years old my mom had a stroke and had to travel to Durban and Pietermaritzburg for assistance because there was a lack of facilities in the area.

‘I decided that I wanted to offer these services to make it easier for patients.’

This family’s medical struggle motivated him to become a physiotherapist.

In 2000, he graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy at the University of KZN and two years later he opened his own private physio practice, which provides treatment to individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function.

‘I just wanted to share my knowledge and expertise with the local community,’ says Mazibuko.

With a desire to make a difference and provide affordable fitness and wellness services, he established Ejimini Fitness Club in 2008 with more than 45 world class exercise machines from China, Japan and other countries.

Both businesses have created employment for more than 50 people in the area, including other physiotherapists, gym instructors and bio-kinetic trainers.

While building his ’empire’, he met the love of his life Simphiwe Mazibuko, who blessed him with a son, Sihe Mazibuko, now 16 months old.

A man at the heart of the community, Mazibuko is a supporter of many local charities and community events and his dream is to one day open a wellness centre to care for frail patients.

He is an entrepreneur, family man, husband, father and born-again Christian, who devotes a large portion of his time to church and public service.
