CITY of uMhlathuze Engineers Department officials were impressed by a demonstration of an innovative method of speedy repair of potholes.
If implemented, this would come as a welcome relief to drivers on City road surfaces under constant siege from heavy duty trucks.
The demonstration took place in Alton – one of the worst-hit areas – where a mobile unit sprayed the ready-to-use bitumen onto the damaged surface which, after being compacted, was good to take traffic within an hour.
The road will be monitored over the next weeks to see how it holds up to normal traffic pressures.
‘We have looked at other similar options and obviously will takes comparative costs into consideration as we address the need for swift pothole repair and maintenance of our road infrastructure,’ said City Engineer, Yogi Naidoo.
