Farmer diesel rebate system in focus
The meeting was attended by more than 220 farmers from all over the province.
DIESEL is one of the main input costs farmers face, but they do receive a rebate from the taxman.
To address issued surrounding the agricultural diesel rebate system by the SA Revenue Services (SARS), the KZN agricultural union, Kwanalu, presented a workshop at the Royal Show Grounds in Pietermaritzburg.
The meeting was attended by more than 220 farmers from all over the province.
It presented Kwanalu members with the opportunity to get answers and clarification on the rebate system.
Senior representatives from the SARS Legal and Auditing Departments gave a detailed presentation on how farmers in particular can legally and effectively claim for rebates on diesel used in specific farming practices.
‘It was positive to see so many farmers in attendance, showing their willingness to comply with the somewhat difficult terms and conditions for agricultural diesel rebates,’ said Kwanalu CEO Sandy la Marque.
During the workshop, Kwanalu members were invited to give input into the functionality of the diesel rebate system.
Kwanalu undertook to provide comments relating to the proposed review of the diesel rebate as has been recently mooted in parliament.
