UPDATE: Hijacking hotspot claims another victim

Yet another motorist has suffered at the hands of armed hijackers at the now infamous intersection on the R66.

FOUR armed men ambushed a motorist at the R66 Melmoth, eShowe and Empangeni intersection on Tuesday night.

According to reports, the Hyundai i10 was recovered at a later stage, abandoned near Empangeni.

Police sources close to the investigations of hijackings and robberies, have urged motorists to be aware of the prevalence of crime in the area.

Motorists are forced to slow down at the intersection owing to the speed bumps while the suspects wait in the bushes near the road.

Unsuspecting motorists are ambushed as they slow to a crawl.

The intersection has been a known hotspot for some time, with a number of hijackings over the past months.
