Visiting SA – take two

After thoroughly enjoying St Lucia, the Kremers are looking forward to visiting the Cape next

THE Kremers family of the Netherlands, whose 2014 holiday to South Africa was cut short after they fell victim to a freak accident at their St Lucia guesthouse, are back on South African soil, enjoying the portion of their holiday they had to cancel last time.

‘We do not have any bad memories of South Africa and our hosts have been generous, kind and hospitable both now and immediately after the accident,’ said Nelly Kremers, whose injuries were the worst and included a punctured lung and fractured pelvis, after the upstairs deck at their St Lucia guesthouse suddenly collapsed with them on it.

Not quite fully recovered, Nelly, along with her family, is eager to see the Drakensberg again and the Cape, where they could not visit last time.

‘Hot air ballooning in the Drakensberg is what I am really looking forward to,’ said Ineke, one of Ton and Nelly’s two daughters.

Before leaving KZN though, the family will be spending some time in Richards Bay with the girl they met in hospital.

The Kremers flew in to South Africa last Sunday and, after spending a night with friends in Ermelo, headed straight to St Lucia where they spent two nights. They could not speak more highly of their hosts, as they recalled their helpfulness straight after the accident.

‘We kept in touch since then and did not think twice about staying at the same guesthouse in St Lucia,’ said Nelly, who was particularly looking forward to that night’s turtle tour.

‘When we sat down to plan this year’s holiday, everyone agreed it would be to South Africa to finish the holiday we started last time.’
