New hospitals planned for Bay

A total of 160 additional beds proposed for the City

THE KZN Department of Health is making its move to build two new private hospitals in Richards Bay to offer additional healthcare to medical and mental health patients in the City.

If all goes according to plan, one 120-bed hospital will be built on White Pear Street in Arboretum, adjoining the CBD, and another 40-bed facility on Lira Link.

The first will offer 40 medical, 30 surgical, 15 paediatric, five intensive care, five high care, 15 obstetric, five neonatal ICU and five day beds as well as four operating theatres while the second will accommodate 40 psychiatric beds.

According to the KZN DoH, it will only submit the applications to the DoH once all comments from the public have been received.
