Police officers injured in shoot-out

A manhunt is underway for the gang of criminals that shot and injured two Jozini police officers early Sunday morning

RESPONDING to reports of an armed robbery in progress at the Jozini municipal offices in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday) morning, two police officers sustained serious injuries in a shoot-out and are recovering in hospital.

The officers confronted six suspects in the Mlotheni area after they had fled the scene in their getaway vehicle.

The suspects immediately opened fire on the officers, two of whom were wounded.

The suspects then fled the scene and the officers were taken to hospital for medical attention. A case of attempted murder was opened at the Jozini police station and a manhunt is currently underway.

Condemning the attack, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said, ‘Every day we are confronted by ruthless criminals while executing our constitutional mandate to fight crime.

‘We will not be discouraged by their actions and we will continue to fight criminals that operate in our communities to ensure our citizens feel safe.

‘We appeal to the community in Jozini to come forward and expose these ruthless criminals so they can be arrested and put behind bars where they belong’.
