New scam uses Minister of Labour’s name

Watch out for emails from con artists, says Department of Labour

THE Department of Labour has raised the alarm on fraudsters now using the name of Minister of Labour, Mildred Oliphant to get their hands into unsuspecting individuals’ pockets.

Con artists are reportedly sending emails, requesting money transfers for beneficiaries.

‘The Department wishes to categorically state that this is nothing more than a scam to fleece and rip-off unsuspecting public,’ the department said in a statement.

‘All South Africans are urged to desist from interacting with these fraudsters should they receive such a scam email.

‘The public is encouraged to contact their nearest Labour Centre for more details and verification, if need be or report such activities to the Department’s Fraud Hotline, 0860 022 194.’
