Family held as security by cross-border car thieves

The gang grabbed the keys for a Ford Ranger and a VW Polo Vivo.

BRAZEN vehicle thieves held an eSikhaleni family hostage in their home until their stolen vehicle was safely across the border, after which they were released.

The incident took place last Thursday, when the gang grabbed the keys for a Ford Ranger and a VW Polo Vivo.

They assured the family the Vivo would be left somewhere it could later be found, on condition the Ranger made it across the Mozambican border.

‘They disabled the tracking unit and true to their word, they phoned five hours later to say the job had been accomplished and their colleagues at the house could leave the family unharmed,’ said Sgt ZM Biyela of the SAPS Seaborderline task team who the following day recovered the Vivo at the KwaMcebisi cottages in eSikhaleni.
