Robbers strike in Brackenham

Shortly after there was a knock at the door and four men stormed inside when she opened up.

A BRACKENHAM family was last week held up at gunpoint during a house robbery and robbed of household items, laptops and cellphones.

Resident, Mala Pillay arrived home at 7.50pm, went into her house and locked the door.

Shortly after there was a knock at the door and four men stormed inside when she opened up.

‘The criminals pointed a firearm at my husband and I, demanded cash, keys to safes and then began looting all our belongings.

‘They did not have a vehicle and took the keys to my Hyundai bakkie, loaded all our belongings and fled.

‘The vehicle’s anti-hijack activated and it was later found abandoned near the Richards Bay cemetery.

‘Fortunately they were not violent and did not harm us in anyway,’ she said.

Meanwhile, Ray Govender of the Brackenham Crime Watch Night Patrols who attended the scene shortly after the incident said residents must be extra cautious as criminals are targeting homes during the day and in the evenings as well.

He said the night patrols begin at 10pm every night and more volunteers are needed to patrol all the streets.
