Chat groups address child safety

Groups have been created for the suburbs of Meerensee, Birdswood and Arboretum.

RICHARDS Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently launched several Youth Neighbourhood Watch chat groups via social networking site watsapp to help youngsters with security and safety issues.

The group of CPF members concerned about the safety, security and well-being of children and teenagers created groups for the suburbs of Meerensee, Birdswood and Arboretum.

According to Carmen Mercer, the initiative was rolled out for the safety of children and as a medium for them to access information.

‘The groups will be coordinated by CPF members from different suburbs and if your child needs help, we can relay the message through the relevant channels so they can receive the help they need.

‘The groups will not advertise any crime news but will be used as a medium to offer help and assistance only.

‘As a new venture, we are still finalising the system and need more volunteers to come on board,’ said Mercer.

Community members can contact the following groups: Carmen 079 3120091 and Shannon 082 3229075 (Birdswood), Tanya 083 6960682 (Arboretum) and Mel 082 5584275 (Meerensee).
